PHILOSOPHY

I aim to foster an empathic environment and an effective collaboration with my patients so they can better examine conflicts arising from longstanding patterns of behavior. As a psychodynamic psychiatrist, insight-oriented psychotherapy is at the center of my practice. While I do prescribe medications when indicated, they are an augmentation to the psychotherapeutic work we do together. By keeping the therapy and medication within the same doctor-patient relationship, we can monitor the effects of both in real time and adjust accordingly.

At UW-Madison I supervise and teach foundational elements of psychiatry to medical students and trainees. My specialty areas involve anxiety, depression as well as relationship troubles and issues of personal identity. The goal of my practice, regardless of diagnosis, is to empathically support my patients as they navigate the difficulties of their lives. To this end I offer longer-term insight-oriented treatment.
